STATEMENT OF FAITH
I believe in GOD the Holy Trinity, the mysterious union of God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit. GOD is the Creator of all things. JESUS CHRIST is God incarnate and is eternally one with God, begotten from God and joining with humanity. Jesus Christ is fully divine and fully human. I believe in the HOLY SPIRIT, the third person of the Trinity, who now attests to Jesus Christ in our hearts and among the community of faith. The Triune God is the author of all things, including faith; it is God's grace that saves us, not our own action.
God desires to know us and to be worshipped by us but every human being shares in a selfish tendency to turn away from God, which is called SIN. Jesus Christ reconciles humanity to God. Being human, Jesus was yet able to resist the human tendency toward sin and become a perfect sacrifice and atonement for sin on the CROSS. Being God, death could not hold Jesus. He rose from the dead and ascended into heaven to sit with God in eternity. The atoning work of Jesus
Christ is complete and perfect. There is no person whom God calls who cannot be reconciled to God through faith in Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit. Whoever believes in Jesus Christ shall be saved, shall not die, but shall have eternal life.
The CHURCH is the body of Christ. The Church endeavors to be Christ's faithful witness on earth until Christ comes again. The Church is faithful to Christ when it is devoted to the proclamation of the Word and the celebration of the Sacraments. Through BAPTISM, the Holy Spirit seals us into the fellowship of the Church and into God's redeeming grace. Through the LORD'S SUPPER, the Holy Spirit binds us together as the Body of Christ and joins us with Christ to be nourished in His presence. These sacraments are visible symbols of the miraculous and mysterious work of the Holy Spirit. The Church shares dual citizenship in heaven and earth. The Church endeavors to live as Jesus lived. The Church is never fully understood by the world, resistant to the powers that oppose God's work, and devoted to proclaiming the Gospel and doing God's will. Although presently divided into many denominations, the true Church is one.
The BIBLE is the word of God. Both the Old and New Testaments are united in their witness to the one true Word of God, Jesus Christ. The Bible is divinely inspired and uniquely authoritative. As a community of faith, we see Scripture clearly when we stand in the TRADITION of the saints who passed before us; as they knew God, so we know God by walking in the same way. We read the Bible trusting that the Holy Spirit will continue to teach us.
At the END OF TIME, all things will be completed. Jesus Christ will return to bring His children home. All judgments will be rendered; all grace will be conferred. All of creation will be restored, and God's promises will be fulfilled. Until the end of time, we live as Christians, hopeful in the merciful promise of the cross, empowered for good works by the Spirit, expectant toward the world to come, and active as an alternative community that endeavors to tangibly demonstrate God's will for the world at hand.
